Origin — why this framework exists
Every year the tools change. Midjourney gives way to new models; video generators leapfrog each other every quarter. Creators who learn only interfaces are beginners again every spring. After twenty years of teaching design and film production at university, one thing became clear: what survives tool churn is not technique — it is judgment.
Directing Literacy names that judgment and makes it teachable. Formalized in academic research and refined across hundreds of classroom hours, it treats the AI-era creator as a director: someone who does not draw every frame, but decides what is good, what belongs, and how the whole comes together.

Aesthetic Judgment
Aesthetic JudgmentAI can generate three hundred images in a minute; it cannot tell you which one is good. Aesthetic judgment is the trained eye that can — grounded in the principles of form, composition and color, and in the visual culture a work will live in. We train it the way art schools always have: by looking at many things, choosing, and defending the choice.

Narrative Integration
Narrative IntegrationA generated shot is a fragment. Direction begins when fragments are forced into sequence: this scene answers that one, the message builds, the cut lands where the meaning turns. Narrative integration is the ability to hold the whole in your head while judging every part — the difference between a mood board and a work.

Technical Orchestration
Technical OrchestrationOne tool is never enough. A real production chains image models, video models, voice synthesis and editing into a single pipeline — and someone has to conduct. Technical orchestration is knowing what each instrument does, where it breaks, and how to hand the work from one to the next without losing the director’s intent.

One sentence of intent is written before any tool is opened: what should the viewer feel at the last frame?
Two hundred candidates
Scene by scene, image and video models produce options — directed by prompts that carry the intent, not random pulls.
Twelve survivors
The aesthetic axis cuts hard: what fits the visual standard set in the plan stays. Everything else goes, however pretty.
One ninety-second film
Edit, sound, pacing. The narrative axis decides the order; the technical axis makes the pipeline deliver it in 4K.
